No Tax Increase Summer Festival Won't Be Held

Commissioners in Wilkins voted unanimously to hold the line on taxes in a $5.2 million budget for 2016 that keeps the property tax rate at 5.674 mills.

The budget does not include funds for the annual summer festival, which has been eliminated.

Also at the meeting on Monday, commissioners voted unanimously to enter into an updated interim consent order with the state Department of Environmental Protection related to the township's sanitary sewer system.

The consent order is part of an agreement with the Allegheny County Sanitary Authority, the DEP, the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Allegheny County Health Department for compliance with the Clean Water Act during periods of wet weather and overflow.

Alcosan owns and operates a system of lines that carries sewage to be treated from 83 municipal customers, including Wilkins. …
