Next Mercedes CEO May Have Ties to Vance Plant

A former president and CEO of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance is reportedly the favored candidate to become the next CEO of Mercedes- Benz.

The German publication "Manager Magazin" reported this week Ola Kaellenius, now Daimler sales chief, is favored by Daimler AG's chairman as the potential successor to Dieter Zetsche as CEO. Kaellenius was the third president of Mercedes-Benz U.S. International in Vance, heading the Tuscaloosa County auto plant from mid-2009 to mid-2010.

In December 2014, Kaellenius, who now is Daimler sales chief, was named to the management board of Daimler AG, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz. At that time, the automotive trade journal identified him as one of four likely candidates to succeed Zetsche, who is not expected to retire for a few years and who could have his executive contract extended through 2019. …
