Upmc Secures Erie County Market for Women's, Children's Health Services

UPMC Hamot has renamed its women's hospital in Erie as Magee- Womens Hospital-UPMC Hamot Campus, reflecting a closer alignment with specialists at Magee-Womens Hospital of UPMC in Oakland and securing the hospital giant's role in children's and women's health in Erie County.

Newborn and neonatal admissions at Hamot have increased 189 percent in the last five years, spurring growth in specialty women's health services, according to David Gibbons, COO at UPMC Hamot. The Children's Hospital Specialty Care Center opened in September after about $1 million in building improvements.

"UPMC clearly has become the tertiary care hub in this region, including for women's health services," Mr. Gibbons said in a prepared statement.

Built in 2011, the hospital is the Erie area's only women's hospital. The hospital's first floor is a 6,000-square-foot pediatric outpatient specialty care center, which is affiliated with UPMC's Children's Hospital in Lawrenceville. …
