UNITED are hoping their youngsters' exposure to bigger stages can stand the young Reds in good stead in their FA Youth Cup test this season.

Paul McGuinness's teenagers kick off the historic tournament against QPR at Leigh Sports Village tonight.

After winning the youth trophy on a record 10 occasions, the latest generation could have the best platform from which to launch their ambitions to follow in the footsteps of United winners like George Best, the Busby Babes, and the Class of '92.

"In an ideal world, we'd be having settled teams and be training regularly with them. On the flipside, this couldn't be a better prepared team in terms of having played in big games," said McGuinness.

"They've had six big games in the UEFA Youth League and some of them have played in the Reserves league. …
