All-America defensive end Hugh Green of the University of Pittsburgh, the runner-up in the recent Heisman Trophy voting, last night was named winner of the 11th Vince Lombardi award as the nation's outstanding college football lineman.

Green beat out three other finalists for the award - Mike Singletary of Baylor, Ron Simmons of Florida State and E.J. Junior of Alabama.

Green said that even more important to him than winning individual honors, he wants the Pitt Panthers to finish the season at No. 1.

"When I came to Pittsburgh four years ago, that was one of my goals and it still is," Green said.

Despite winning the honor, Green said he was not pleased with his senior year. …
