Iran closes schools for 2 days for 'unhealthy' pollution levels

High air pollution has forced Iranian authorities to close all schools and kindergartens in the capital for two days beginning Sunday, saying the pollution had reached dangerous levels.

Iranian state television said on Saturday that a government committee had ordered the schools' closure because of the "polluted and unhealthy" weather. The government has also closed schools in the large cities of Isfahan and Arak.

The skies over Iran's capital, Tehran, are among the most polluted in the world, and health experts say many Iranians suffer serious health problems as a result.

More than 90 missing after landslide in China * At least 91 people were missing Monday, a day after a massive landslide buried dozens of buildings when it swept through an industrial park in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.

The state-runl Xinhua news Agency said the landslide had buried 33 buildings in the industrial park in Shenzhen, a manufacturing center in Guangdong province near Hong Kong.

Xinhua said that as of Monday morning, 59 men and 32 women were missing in the landslide.

Shenzhen's public security bureau posted a notice online Monday saying that at least 59 people were missing. No deaths were reported.

Xinhua said an area of more than 650,000 square feet was covered with up to 20 feet of mud, according to geological experts at the site.

Protests as convicted rapist goes free in India * A man convicted as a juvenile in the fatal 2012 gang rape of a young woman aboard a moving bus in India's capital ended his three-year term in a reform home Sunday, as angry protesters demanded that he remain in detention.

The man was short of his 18th birthday when he and five others brutally attacked the 23-year-old woman in a case that shocked India, where sexual violence against women is rampant.

Several activists and politicians have demanded that he not be released until it can be proven that he has been reformed. …
