Pompton Plains Man Faces More Charges in Fatal Crash

A Pompton Plains man now faces charges of aggravated manslaughter and second-degree death by auto in the October death of a 63-year- old Oak Ridge man in a Wayne car crash, police said Saturday.

Jeffrey A. Afflitto, 31, faces those charges as well as his original charge of driving while intoxicated after an investigation into the crash that killed Paul J. Amarose hours after the head-on collision on Newark Pompton Turnpike, according to a press release by the Wayne police.

According to Capt. Laurence W. Martin, the crash occurred on Oct. 22 at 4:41 p.m., when a 2013 Acura TSX driven by Afflitto and traveling south on Newark Pompton Turnpike crossed the center line and collided with the 1997 GMC Jimmy driven by Amarose.
