The University of Charleston football team finished the year ranked 20th in the final American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II top 25 poll. The Golden Eagles ended the 2015 season at 10-2 with the first playoff berth in team history. UC, which climbed as high as 15th in that poll, lost to Indiana (Pa.) 47-21 in the first round. IUP finished at No. 19.

Mountain East Conference champion Shepherd, which lost 34-7 to Northwest Missouri State in the Division II national championship game to finish at 13-1, finished No. 2 in the poll. Northwest Missouri State finished No. 1 and as the only undefeated Division II team in the country at 15-0.
