DOGS' HOME REOPENING IS DELAYED ONCE AGAIN ; Puzzle_Book_ Problems with Electrics Means That Site Devastated by Fire Will Be Closed until the New Year

WORK to rebuild the Manchester Dogs' Home has been hit by more delays, forcing bosses to put back its reopening until the new year.

Refurbishment work has been taking place for months at the Harpurhey site, in Moss Brook Road, after a devastating fire tore through the building in September 2014.

The blaze killed 60 dogs and hundreds of others were rescued after the fire. Generous M.E.N. readers helped raise Pounds 1.4m within a matter of days to help towards the rebuilding of the home.

However, there have been a series of 'technical problems' and managers have now been forced to delay the reopening, which was originally planned for the autumn and then Christmas.

Manager Steve Mapley said: "We have delayed the opening because of a problem with the electrics. We will have to delay until it gets rectified. It is going to have to be in the new year."

The kennels remain closed to the public. Anybody interested in rehoming a dog must call the home first to book an appointment.

The new facilities include multiple kennels created on a block partially destroyed by the fire. …
