1940 U.S. Action in Pacific Is Sought

London While defending these islands from German air attacks, hunting submarines in the Atlantic and hammering Italy in the Mediterranean, the British are not abandoning hope that the United States will be able to take effective but non-military action in the Pacific, which the British could reinforce for the defense of Anglo- American interests against Japanese encroachments. This constant watch on the Far East was shown today [Dec. 27] in reports from Washington.
