Q&A: 'Carol' Reunites Cate Blanchett with Director Todd Haynes

Todd Haynes earned considerable acclaim for his 2002 film "Far From Heaven," which was set in the 1950s and focused on a woman who discovered her husband's homosexuality.

Now, the director returns to the era with "Carol," based on a novel by Patricia Highsmith. Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara star as two women who become involved in a romance.

Recently, Haynes spoke with us about the film.

Cate Blanchett played one of several versions of Bob Dylan in your 2007 film, "I'm Not There." Was being reunited with her one of your reasons for signing onto "Carol"? I came onto it sort of late in the game. It didn't come to me until 2013, and Cate was already attached to play Carol. Just reading the script and reading the book, and imagining her in the role, had a gravitational pull for me. I was dying to have an opportunity to work with her again. …
