Thirty-five years ago, a social worker from Cabin Creek visiting a home a few days before Christmas noticed there were no presents for the children. As Lori Kersey reported in Wednesdays Gazette- Mail, the social worker enlisted the help of her son, Bill Christian, an employee of Columbia Gas. Unbeknownst to everyone at the time, one of the areas biggest and best toy drives had begun. Bill eventually got his co-workers involved, and since then, the Gas Control Toy Drive at Columbia Gas has grown from providing Christmas to about 30 children to more than 400, as well as giving dozens of gift bags to seniors in need and providing meals to about 200 hungry children in Eastern Kanawha County. …
