Sunday will mark the ninth time this century the Jets enter the final week of an NFL season with a chance to make the playoffs. Here's a look at what happened those previous times:

2011

Opponent: at Miami

What happened: The Jets (8-7) needed to beat the Dolphins and get plenty of help. They lost, 19-17, with WR Santonio Holmes having an in-game meltdown.

2009

Opponent: Cincinnati

What happened: The Jets (8-7) needed to win and did so with a 37- 0 rout of the AFC North champion Bengals, who rested numerous players.

Playoffs: Yes

2008

Opponent: Miami

What happened: The Jets (9-6) needed to win and get some help. They got no help and lost anyway, 24-17. Coach Eric Mangini was fired the next day.
