As the ball drops at midnight on Jan. 1, many will celebrate the start of 2016 with a glass in hand. The Wine & Cheese Shop in Capitol Market certainly sees its fair share of customers the last few days of the year.

Obviously, with New Years we get a lot of people that want sparkling wine or champagne, owner Ted Armbrecht said.

Choosing the right beverage typically comes down to two things: taste and price.

For champagne, prices can range anywhere from tens to hundreds of dollars depending on the brand and vintage.

Armbrecht said that the shop has several grower champagnes, meaning theyre produced by family-owned or small houses. These bottles usually average between $45 and $70.

They also have the more expensive sips, like Dom Prignon and Mot & Chandon.

We sell a lot of that stuff, Armbrecht said. …
