ANEW 13-storey apartment block could be built in the city centre next to Deansgate railway station.

The skyscraper will be built on the land at Chester Road/ Bridgewater viaduct and Deansgate, right next to the station if the application is given the go-ahead by Manchester council.

It is expected to have 53 plush one and two-bedroom apartments. In the plans made by Knott Mill Securities Ltd, it states the 13- storey building will create 15 one-bed flats and 38 twobedroom apartments.

There will also be an additional 15 car parking spaces and 32 bicycle spaces in the 600 square metre site.

The site, owned by Ship Canal Properties was last used as an insurance brokers and car hire company.

The nearby Beetham Tower is 47-storeys and cost Pounds 150m back when it was built in 2006. City centre chief councillor Pat Karney said; "This is just one application of many that is expected to create around 4,000 new apartments over the next couple of years. …
