Manchester 'Forgotten' in Pounds 2m Aid Hand-Out

MINISTERS have handed over more than Pounds 2m in flood aid to Salford, Rochdale, Bury, Bolton and Wigan - but seem to have forgotten about Manchester.

The M.E.N. understands around 30 businesses in Cheetham were hit by the Boxing Day floods.

But officials from the Department of Communities and Local Government appear to have overlooked them and have allocated nothing to the city, despite being informed about the flooding victims by Manchester council.

Baffled council bosses are currently pushing the ministry for the aid they had expected.

The cash can be used at the discretion of local authorities, but at least some of it is expected to be used for grants to flooded householders.

However, Manchester - which escaped the worst of the floods - is still arguing for the cash it needs. …
