Truck Driver Pleads Not Guilty in Fatal Crash

A truck driver pleaded not guilty Monday to vehicular homicide charges in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a Hudson County man and injured several people on the New Jersey Turnpike in Carlstadt in 2014.

Defense attorney Jose Cameron entered the plea on behalf of Henry G. Flores, 56, during a brief arraignment before state Superior Court Judge Susan J. Steele in Hackensack.

Bergen County Assistant Prosecutor Martin Delaney told the judge that he had just extended a plea offer to the defendant under which his office would recommend a five-year prison sentence in return for a plea to the charges.

Flores, who sported a long beard and entered the courtroom using a metal walker, listened to the proceedings as they were translated for him by a Spanish interpreter. He was indicted in October on a single, second-degree count of driving recklessly and thereby causing the death of Jeffrey Humphrey, 43, of Harrison. …
