Woman Reports Rape at Tuscaloosa Hotel, May Be Linked to Other Recent Assaults

Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from a Tuscaloosa hotel after a guest said she was raped by a man posing as a security guard.

The woman, 30, told officers that a friend dropped her off at America's Best Value Inn on McFarland Boulevard around 2 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. Kip Hart, Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit assistant commander.

The suspect, who claimed he was a security guard, approached and helped the woman's friend guide her to the room, Hart said.

Video surveillance shows that both the friend and suspect left the hotel room, but the suspect returned later.

The woman told investigators that the man was assaulting her when she awoke a few hours later.

The hotel does not employ a security guard, Hart said.
