Building a Spirit of Joy: Massachusetts Students Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity Tuscaloosa

The season of giving didn't end Dec. 25 for a group of students from Assumption College in Worcester, Mass.. The students used part of their Christmas break to come to Tuscaloosa to work with Habitat for Humanity.

Students on Monday afternoon stood next to seasoned Habitat volunteers as they removed and replaced a damaged roof on a house on 19th Street in Tuscaloosa.

"We came to help out because we believe giving back is what matters to people," said student Rashidi Kibaba. " We took time from our Christmas break because we believe in giving back and from that we get joy."

Kibaba is part of the Students Exploring New Destinations (SEND) program administered by the college that allows students to participate in community building projects across the nation. Students participating in the voluntary, non-credit, program work for one week in either December, March or May. …
