Navas Disappointed Cameo Was Not Rewarded with Penalty

JESUS Navas said he was 'definitely' denied a penalty as Manchester City controversially lost the first leg of their League Cup semi-final at Everton.

The Spanish winger helped to drag the Blues back in the tie by scoring a fine equaliser after coming on as a substitute. He collected Sergio Aguero's sliderule pass and kept his composure - something he notoriously lacks in one-on-one situations - to slam the ball underneath Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles.

And he seemed to have handed the Blues another lifeline when Kevin Mirallas swept his foot from under him inside the box. That had City players furious at referee Robert Madley for not spotting the offence.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini was equally aggrieved afterwards, and Navas was in no doubt.

"It was definitely a penalty but the referee didn't see it," he said. "That's a pity but there is nothing we can do about it. …
