Pittsburgh may be a fries-on-your-sandwich-or-salad capital, but it's also achieving status as a center for healthy physical activity.

WalletHub, a Web-based personal finance company, ranked Pittsburgh fifth out of 100 large cities in an analysis of what it called "Best & Worst Cities for an Active Lifestyle."

The website's staff analyzed 24 metrics covering data such as the number of sporting goods stores, golf courses, fitness centers, playgrounds, basketball hoops and little leagues in each market on a per capita basis. It also factored in the average cost of various activities, such as fitness club memberships and bowling.

When scores were tallied, Pittsburgh beat out all but Scottsdale, Ariz.; Orlando, Fla.; Tampa, Fla.; and Cincinnati as the most- active. …
