Downtown Pittsburgh drivers need to be reacquainted with this much-ignored concept: yield to pedestrians.

A car turning left onto Centre Avenue was inching up my coattails while three cars making a right turn onto Centre zipped in front of me.

As I was cautiously trying to cross the street, I physically had to put up my hands to yell STOP! to prevent the fourth car from hitting me.

My reward for saving this person from a manslaughter-by-vehicle charge was that she angrily floored the vehicle, spun wide into the opposing lane behind me and rolled down her window to spew profanities and opinions as to my being "in the middle of the [blankety-blank] road" as well as to my character being a "stupid [mean female]." Seriously?

I am in a crosswalk, in the middle of the road, because I need to become one with the other side of the road. …
