Cranberry Township to Seek New Parks Director after Resignation of Department Head

The structure of Cranberry's parks and recreation operations is being evaluated as the township prepares to hunt for a new departmental director.

Longtime director Mike Diehl resigned as part of an agreement that officially was acknowledged by township supervisors at a public meeting Nov. 22. His resignation was effective Nov. 11.

"It's time for new leadership," said township manager Jerry Andree. "This separation agreement was the most professional way to move forward."

Mr. Diehl, who was hired in September 2000 after having been fired from a parks and recreation position in Allegheny County, had been earning about $70,000 in his position at Cranberry.

He will be paid three months salary and medical benefits through April. Additionally, the township will not contest unemployment benefits and will provide him with a "neutral" letter of reference. …
