Hero Neighbours Save Woman in Horror Dog Attack ; Victim Had Pit Bull Clamped on Her Arm for 20 Minutes

Alexandra Rucki and Todd Fitzgerald POLICE have praised brave bystanders who wrestled a vicious pit bull that savaged a woman's hand after clamping its jaw around her arm.

The 52-year-old woman was walking her son's dog in Holwick Road, Northern the woman's arm for nearly 20 minutes.

Quick-thinking neighbours, two of whom gave their names as Liz and Leanne, came to the woman's aid when they heard her screams.

Medics at Wythenshawe Hospital were battling to save her hand, but it is feared she could lose it.

She remained in theatre receiving emergency surgery last night.

It is understood the dog's owner - believed to be the woman's son - has agreed to have the animal destroyed.

Police say a number of people rushed in to help the woman, including a 34-year-old man who managed to prize the dog's jaws off her arm. …
