LETTER: Hate Groups Commit Most Terrorist Acts

Where did Dwight Stripling (Letters, Dec. 31, 2015) get his statistic "ninety-nine percent of the terrorist acts" in the U.S. have been committed by Muslims? Terrorism is an extreme form of bullying that is not limited to Muslims. The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks all forms of terrorist violence in the U.S. and documents that hate groups, Americans who are not Muslims, are by far the majority of perpetrators. Did Stripling include school shootings and attacks on Planned Parenthood? What about increasing evidence of police violence? Does he count attacks on Muslims, racist attacks and violence against women and sexual minorities?

Stripling appeals for policies that deny American refuge because of assumed identification with an exclusivist belief. But legal policy must apply equally to all -- including Christians who think everyone should be like them. …
