Man Charged in Hotel Rape Case

A rape suspect turned himself in Thursday, a day after authorities released a photo of him to the public.

Robert Moore, 34, is accused of raping a woman at America's Best Value Inn early Saturday morning. The woman told police that a man posing as a security guard helped her to her room and returned later using a stolen key card.

Investigators released a hotel surveillance photo Wednesday, asking the public to help identify the suspect. Moore contacted the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit around 10 a.m. Thursday and said he was the man in the photo, said unit commander Capt. Gary Hood.

Moore gave a statement, but Hood didn't say whether he admitted or denied guilt. Moore was arrested and charged with first-degree rape and second-degree burglary in the hotel incident. He was being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail Thursday night with bond set at $90,000. …
