Appointments made in November by a lame duck Ross board of commissioners came under fire Monday but were upheld.

Jack Betkowski, a new commissioner, took issue with the appointments, citing information on the First Class Township Code that indicated the new board members had the "sole authority to make those appointments" since the appointments did not expire until Jan. 1.

Mr. Betkowski said the process when he was appointed to the zoning hearing board was "transparent and open and well-publicized." The Nov. 16 appointments did not appear on the published agenda, he said.

Case law agreed with Mr. Betkowski, Commissioner Dan DeMarco, an attorney, said.

But Commissioner Lana Mazur said most of the appointments were reappointments of people who were serving in the positions. …
