Girl Raises $1,000 to Thank Police

The Plum Police Department's canine officer will be a little safer come hot summer days thanks to the efforts of a 10-year-old girl who wanted to express her gratitude to the department.

The police department and borough council recognized Alyssa Pazman Monday for raising $1,000 to buy an electronic device that will sound an alarm and pop open the police cruiser's doors if the dog, K-9 Officer Tyler, has been left alone in the cruiser and its interior gets too warm for the animal's safety.

"I wanted to buy a bullet-proof vest," the Holiday Park fifth- grader said.

But Tyler's overseer, Patrolman Lee Temple, told Alyssa that the dog already had one of those. For those times when the human officer has to leave the canine in the car, Temple had a suggestion -- a Hot N Pop device.

The girl met Tyler last year after she was injured in a minor accident and Temple and the dog comforted her. …
