K-State Falls Behind Quickly in 86-76 Loss at Oklahoma

Article excerpt

NORMAN, Okla. -- There was a chance Oklahoma could still be feeling the ill effects of a triple-overtime loss last Monday at Kansas, giving Kansas State a chance to sneak up on the No. 2- ranked Sooners.

Didn't happen.

The Sooners came out on fire and built a double-digit lead in nothing flat, up by 13 points in less than five minutes.

K-State put forth a game effort after the disastrous opening minutes but had too much ground to cover in an 86-76 loss Saturday at Lloyd Noble Center.

"You can't spot a team like that like we did," K-State coach Bruce Weber said. "I was hoping we'd catch them at a good time -- we did last year -- but obviously it wasn't. They came out with a vengeance."

K-State couldn't allow Oklahoma to get rolling early, and that's just what happened. Buddy Hield poured in 15 points in the opening 8 minutes, 10 seconds to stake the Sooners to a 25-6 lead.

"I just ran the floor and my teammates found me," said Hield, who totaled 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting (6 of 8 on 3-pointers) with 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 5 turnovers. …
