Center Says Sex Assault Suspect Wasn't Given Access to Kids

A religious congregation in Wayne where a 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted issued a statement Friday saying it has been cooperating with authorities since it was notified of the attack.

Charles Card, 30, of Sparta was arrested Monday and charged with sexually assaulting the girl at the Beth Israel Worship Center in Wayne.

Card had attended the congregation "for a time but was never granted any official or ministerial access to any child" and "has not been in attendance for several months," the administrator of Beth Israel Worship Center, David Carosiello, said in a statement.

"We were first made aware of the concerns when recently informed by the police and have been working with them since that time," the statement said.

Card is charged with second-degree sexual assault and third- degree endangering the welfare of a child, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes said in a press release. …
