Penn State's Shoop Takes DC Job at Tennessee

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - James Franklin hired a new coordinator a month ago to lead his offense, and Penn State's head coach now will need to find one on the other side of the ball, too, as defensive coordinator Bob Shoop agreed in principle to become Tennessee's defensive coordinator, the Volunteers announced Saturday night.

Shoop, an Oakmont native who coached with Franklin for the past five seasons dating to their three-year tenure at Vanderbilt, agreed to a three-year contract worth $1,150,000 per year according to Wes Rucker of GoVols247. Rucker added that Shoop's buyout, which Footballscoop.com reported Friday as $800,000, will not be paid by Tennessee.

"I would like to thank [athletic director Dave] Hart and Coach [Butch] Jones for giving me this opportunity," Shoop said in a statement released by the Volunteers. …
