Salvation Army Exceeds Fundraising Goal for Annual Red Kettle Campaign during Christmas Season

After a weather-related slow start to its Red Kettle Campaign for 2015, the Salvation Army ended its Christmas fundraising effort with a bang, exceeding its goal by $15,712.

Final numbers released Monday morning showed the Salvation Army took in $200,712 in donations for its annual Christmas campaign, which ran from Oct. 1 to Dec. 31, 2015.

The goal for the campaign was $185,000.

The money will help the Salvation Army provide warm meals, food, rent and utility assistance, veterans services and social services to those in need throughout the year.

"The Salvation Army is humbled by the support from hundreds of friends of The Salvation Army who put money in our kettles every year or send a donation," Major Brian Burkett, corps officer for The Salvation Army of Topeka and Shawnee County, said in a news release. …
