THE friend of a young woman who is critically ill in a Thai hospital after a horror smash has praised the medics who are treating her.

Lucy Hill, 21, suffered a broken pelvis and brain haemorrhage when a car collided with the moped she was riding during a crash in Bangkok on Saturday afternoon.

The graduate, from Bury, is still in a critical condition at Rajavej Chiang Mai Hospital after undergoing surgery last weekend.

She was left in an anaemic condition, so family and friends launched an appeal for Western travellers and ex-pats to donate the A- blood which she so desperately needs.

Less than one per cent of Thai people have 'negative' blood types so that particular blood is extremely hard to find.

Dozens of strangers queued up from 6am to donate pints of blood to help Lucy.

As a result doctors were able to perform another blood transfusion. …
