City Controller Calls for Funding for Public Art Project at Consol

A recent performance audit of the Sports and Exhibition Authority by city Controller Michael Lamb calls for the Urban Redevelopment Authority and the SEA to make it a priority to secure funding for a stalled public art project at the Consol Energy Center, "given the willingness of foundations to aid in the process."

The audit also calls on Mayor Bill Peduto and city council to apply pressure on the Penguins and the SEA to find funding.

The SEA, which owns the ice hockey arena property in Uptown, commissioned artist and landscape architect Walter Hood in 2008 to design the work. Called Curtain Call/Garden Passage, it was to be a sculptural wall that made use of historic Hill District photographs accentuating a sinuous walkway from Centre Avenue to Fifth Avenue, with a rainwater diversion feature.
