Supporting Their Own Ingram Residents Defend Firefighters Again at Meeting

For the second month in a row, more than 150 residents came to the Ingram council meeting to defend the volunteer fire department that is being considered for replacement by Pittsburgh firefighters.

Council took no action Monday night except to schedule a Feb. 4 public meeting. Pittsburgh's proposal to provide firefighting services to the borough's 3,300 residents will be presented for all to see, said council President Sam Nucci.

The Crafton Volunteer Fire Department also has expressed an interest in providing services, Mr. Nucci announced. Crafton firefighters have not given Ingram officials a formal proposal yet.

Late last month, Pittsburgh City Council unanimously approved entering into a five-year agreement with Ingram officials to provide firefighting services in the west suburb, which borders the city. …
