Butler County commissioners have rejected the only bids they received in an effort to buy a site for a new county human services office and have decided to ask the county's Community Development Corp. for help in finding a location.

Two landowners were willing to sell properties to the county: Joyce Schnur, who wanted $239,900 for a house and garage stalls on 1.9 acres in Butler Township, and Warner Development, which wanted $1.9 million for 1.88 acres with an office building, also in Butler Township.

Human Services Director Carmine Scotece said neither site is good for the human services office. The new building also will house the Center for Community Services, a nonprofit, independent county agency that evaluates prospective human services clients.

Scotece said the Schnur property is outside the area designated in the county's request for proposals and the Warner site is too big and has several tenants with leases that extend more than a year. …
