Pennsylvania Must Continue to Capitalize on Its Film Assets

I was pleased to see the recent Post-Gazette editorial recognizing the economic benefits of the Pennsylvania film tax credit ("Starring Role: A Bigger Film Tax Credit Would Help Pennsylvania," Jan. 8). I share the concern about damage done to a growing state industry by our budget impasse, and I'm glad our administration is now able to release money to help attract more film and television production.

Since it began in 2007, the program has awarded about $500 million in credits to 381 productions but generated more than $3.7 billion in overall economic activity and supported about 24,000 jobs. The businesses and employees working here pay state and local taxes, and the ancillary spending helps other businesses in the state to thrive.

Western Pennsylvania is a prime example of the value of this state government investment. …
