Topeka Fire Crews Battle House Fire on S.W. MacVicar; Investigators Say It Was Intentionally Set

A smoky fire late Thursday morning caused considerable damage to a home in west-central Topeka and was found to have been intentionally set.

The incident resulted in no apparent injuries, officials said at the scene.

The blaze was reported at 10:48 a.m. at a home at 1045 S.W. MacVicar. The residence is on the northwest corner of the intersection of S.W. 11th and MacVicar.

First-arriving crews found heavy, brown smoke pouring out of the house.

Firefighters made a quick interior attack and searched for any occupants that might have been inside the home, but found none.

Fire crews then worked on putting out the fire, which was under control shortly after 11 a.m.

Topeka fire investigators determined that the fire's origin was within the interior of the structure and it caused an estimated $50,000 in structural loss and $25,000 in contents loss. …
