Colleges Seek $1.3B in Building Projects

More building and renovation projects are planned at the state's colleges and universities, including an expansion of computer sciences at Montclair State and almost $100 million in construction at all three campuses of Rutgers.

Schools applied this week for a second round of state grants of nearly $1.3 billion in bond money made available in late 2012 for capital improvements in higher education. The first round sparked a building boom at campuses around the state, including a new classroom building at William Paterson, new science and business buildings at Montclair State and a new building at Bergen Community College.

Rutgers got nearly $550 million from the first round of funding, which it used for several projects, including the new Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health in New Brunswick. Rutgers' governing board on Thursday voted to apply for $98. …
