Don Bosco's Bitetto Resigns as Coach

Big things always happen when Don Bosco is set to wrestle rival Bergen Catholic.

But nobody was prepared for what happened hours before the annual showdown for North Jersey supremacy Thursday.

Chris Bitetto resigned as the head coach at Don Bosco on Thursday morning, citing personal reasons after five-plus years at the helm.

"I have family obligations I have to concern myself with," Bitetto said without elaborating.

Bosco athletic director Brian McAleer confirmed Bitetto's resignation for "personal reasons."

Bitetto, a former state champion and three-time state finalist at Hackensack, took over the program in the 2010-11 season, one year after the Ironmen won the Non-Public A state championship under current Bergen Catholic coach Nunzio Campanile.

He coached Bosco's only four state champions, beginning with two- time champion Razohnn Gross and Luis Gonzalez and culminating with senior Zack Chakonis and junior Kyle Bierdumpfel, both winning titles in Atlantic City last year. …
