The very nature of political campaigns is changing. One outstanding example is Donald Trump, who is spending his own money with hopes of winning the Republican nomination and the presidency.

In essence, Mr. Trump has already won. Despite spending little, he has piqued the curiosity of the news media and the public, gaining not only a following but also national and international attention.

It would appear to be the most successful public relations operation ever in a political campaign. And because he is not beholden to any individuals or groups, he can say anything, pretend anything and imply anything, whether derogatory, calumnious or exaggerated.

He is articulate and has the skills to spin criticism into an advantage. Some consider this approach to be courageous, telling it like it is, while others describe it as political bullying. …
