PATERSON -- Just five months after launching an all-boys elementary school, city education officials are looking for a new principal to oversee the program.

Jasonn Denard, the popular principal who was appointed to the job last year, has resigned from the district, effective Feb. 1, officials said. Denard declined to discuss the reasons for his departure. School board President Christopher Irving said the principal is taking a job outside the district.

"Certainly, I'm sorry to see him go," said Irving.

"It's clearly going to cause us to lose some momentum there," said board member Jonathan Hodges.

District officials started the new school on Smith Street last September in an effort to address the imbalance in the academic performance of Paterson's boys and girls. …
