Lincoln Park to Get Insurance Discount

LINCOLN PARK -- Property owners who pay for flood insurance will see a 25 percent reduction of their bills this year as a result of borough efforts to prepare for, or blunt, the threat of flooding.

The cost reduction comes with the recent approval of the borough's application for the Federal Emergency Management Agency Community Rating System program.

Mayor David Runfeldt, who also is Office of Emergency Management coordinator, said FEMA accepted the borough's application on Jan. 12.

Through rating system program, when flood-prone communities install prevention programs, residents who pay flood insurance through FEMA can receive a discount on their flood premiums. Runfeldt said Lincoln Park achieved a FEMA CRS Class 5 rating, which allows all qualifying property owners to receive a 25 percent discount on their bill. …
