ENGLEWOOD -- The city plans to install new traffic signals along Englewood Avenue this year to improve pedestrian safety and sync more easily with emergency vehicles.

The City Council approved a contract not to exceed $14,250 for T&M Associates during its Dec. 15 meeting to provide engineering services for new traffic signal designs for Englewood Avenue. The signals will be installed at the Englewood Avenue intersections with Van Brunt Street and William Street.

Many of the traffic signals near the city's downtown are aged, with some being at least 27 years old, said City Manager Tim Dacey.

The new traffic signals will have traffic signal prioritization, which will allow emergency services to stop traffic to give their vehicles the right-of-way when responding to a call. …
