MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Luminari, a Pittsburgh nonprofit organization, has announced a merit-based scholarship program for students in grades seven through 11.

Schools have until Sept. 30 to apply for participation. Luminari will select up to eight schools to participate in the award competition. Winners from each school will receive a scholarship worth more than $1,200 to Luminari's "I Want to be an Ambassador!" camp, June 19-27.

The camp will teach the art and skills of diplomacy and ways to use those skills to solve problems in their communities and around the world. There will be activities in Pittsburgh and in Washington, D.C., where campers will interact with diplomats on Embassy Row.

To qualify, schools must gather at least six completed applications from students in their district. Luminari Award winners will be announced in mid-February.
