Falling Slab Killed Worker | Dillon Antaya, 35, Was Killed in Accident at Water Treatment Plant

VENICE

VENICE -- Authorities have released the name of the independent contractor employee who died at the City of Venice Eastside Water Reclamation Facility on Thursday.

Dillon Cristopher Antaya, 35, of Sarasota, was crushed after a large concrete slab fell on top of him, the Venice Police Department reported. Officers responded to the call just before noon.

According to Antaya's Facebook page, he was a native of Michigan, engaged to be married and active in motocross.

A co-worker told police that he and Antaya, both employees of Graber Excavating and Demolition, were cutting a large piece of concrete together. Antaya was cutting the concrete with a saw from beneath when his co-worker heard a cracking noise and the slab fell.

Other workers reported hearing a large crash, according to a Venice Police Department incident report. …
