Pounds a Homeless Man Killed in Tent Fire May Have Been Attacked ; Detectives Also Investigating If Blaze Death Could Have Been Prank Which Went Wrong.

POLICE are investigating whether a homeless man found dead in a burning tent may have been the victim of a prank that went horribly wrong.

And officers are also looking at the possibility that he may had been attacked before being set on fire.

The M.E.N. has learned that the man - who has yet to be identified - had inju-ries to his body. It is also understood that blood splatters were found in the tent.

Firefighters made the gruesome discovery when they were called at 1.20am yesterday to tackle the blaze under railway arches off Irwell Street and Trinity Way, close to the New Bailey Street car park between Salford and Manchester city centre.

It is unclear whether the injuries and blood were 'historic' or connected to the fire. Detectives say the homeless community now holds the key to identifying the man. …
