RYAN Brierley is on course to make his return from post-season surgery ahead of schedule and feature when Leigh Centurions take on Warrington Wolves on Sunday.

It had been thought the 23-year-old half-back would miss the first few weeks of the Championship season, but after coming through a fitness test on the pitch following the friendly with Wigan Warriors last weekend, Brierley is set to be included in Paul Rowley's squad for Simon Grix's testimonial match.

"Hopefully Ryan Brierley will get some game-time. I think he's probably two or three weeks ahead of schedule," said Rowley.

"He's been brilliant really in the way he's worked hard and he's reacted to treatment.

"I just take the lead from the physios - who are brilliant at this club - and when they say he's fit, he's fit. There's no rush.

"But also, when he is fit, there's no point in saying 'well, the doctor said six weeks' if he's ready in four. …
