Regarding the article, "North Allegheny explores options to address enrollment" (Aug. 25), there are several very easy and cost- saving solutions to the problems facing the North Allegheny School District:

* Redistrict to spread the students more evenly throughout the district.

* Do nothing in regard to the aging buildings. The district has been carrying approximately $130 million in debt. Adding an additional $60 million in renovations will most certainly overtax the already overtaxed residents. This school board needs to take a serious look at "wants" versus "needs."

* Create an early retirement package for the teachers who are making more than $100,000 a year and hire new teachers to replace them at a lower salary. Use the money saved to pay down the debt.

* Do away with the current union contract including the "bump system" payroll structure and pay teachers more fairly along the way. …
