Hollywood mogul Thomas Tull has provided a happy ending for the residents of the Sewickley Valley who value historic preservation.

Mr. Tull in November purchased a 115-acre estate that spans two municipalities and applied to tear down the grand 111-year-old house that sits in the Edgeworth portion. A hue and cry arose.

The new owner heard it and, proving to be a good neighbor, proposed a solution: His contractors will arrange to lift up the 11,000-square-foot stone house and move it to another part of the grounds. Guests will bunk at the olde manse, while the Tull family intends to build a new structure on its choice spot, better designed for their way of life.

The historic preservationists lucked out with Mr. Tull, an innovative producer of high-concept entertainment who has an affinity for Pittsburgh beyond his minority stake in the Steelers. …
